So, the last week has been a bit of a tough one for me. Since day one, Landon has been a baby that spits up a lot. At first, I got a little worried, when he began to spit up what I thought was A LOT every time he ate...but every time I went to the clinic, they told me not to worry and that he'd grow out of it. one doctor said that if it didn't stop, to go to Children's for an xray because of a condition called "pyloric stenosis", another doctor thought I was just a worried new mom, and my family doctor just figured it was reflux but that he'd grow out of it. So, we kept going, and once breastfeeding didn't work anymore, I switched him completely to formula (about a month ago). Then, he began to spit up and have pretty bad tummy aches even more...so after switching to 2 different formulas with no success, I decided to try soy because I thought maybe he was allergic to milk. For a few days, the spitting up stopped and the tummy aches definately stopped, and I thought maybe I had figured it out...but then 3 days ago, he got this weird rash and started spitting up and getting tummy aches again. So, I took him to the clinic today and found out that the rash is a bit of excema and a bit of a yeast infection - both that could have been brought on by an allergy to the soy formula. And as for the tummy stuff, the doctor once again wasn't a huge help, but I kind of expected that. I think the frustrating part is that as a mom, I feel like something isn't quite right because I'm around babies all the time, and Landon's throwing up isn't exactly normal. I know spit up is normal, and there are times when his is normal, but other times when he throws up for close to an hour after he feeds and large amounts. I will be taking him to the naturopath on Monday and I feel like at least with a naturopath, they will help me get to the bottom of it, even if it is something really little. That's what I'm praying for.

Kris....i was thinking the other day and wondering if you've looked into the iron content of any of the formulas? i had to get william completely off iron (for different reasons) and slowly introduce it again. and as soon as it was back we had the same prob again. so i had to slowly adjust it all. iron can be really hard on them- but they DO for sure need it. There are formulas that have NO iron or really low iron- just a thought to try. B/c at this point without the doctor's input, other mom's might have the best solution. have you googled about it?
Kris - we are praying for you! We love you guys!
Hi Kristin!
This is Sarah (Neufeld) from MEI :) I enjoy reading your blog from time to time - you have such a beautiful family! I couldn't help but comment as one of my previous co-workers from Calgary had the same problem with her son when he was young. It turned out to be pyloric stenosis and he had to have minor surgery to correct it(not to freak you out!) She's a nurse at Foothills Hospital and she's a great person. She could really give you some good advice . If you're interested, just send me a message on Facebook & I'll give you her e-mail - it couldn't hurt :) All the best!
Hey,
If this is useful, I am glad and if not, just disregard. I don't know how much your large amounts are, but Caily use to spit up tons. What really helped her is that I would hold her upright for 30 minutes after I fed her, no laying down even at night and I would time her so that she wouldn't over eat. Also, she is a quick eater and I wouldn't let her do more than 5 minutes a side, still to this day (nine months later) I don't let her eat more than that during her first feed in the morning, otherwise is all comes up, I mean where I am drenched and so is she. Another thing that was important is that I burped her in the middle of those five minutes and in between sides. Needless to say, we spent alot of time trying to coax out a burp. She had it where is was projectile at times. The keeping upright after eating, really helped, when someone else would hold her and unknowingly not hold her upright I could almost guarantee a large amount of milk running down their leg. It has gotten better though and she hasn't spit up nearly as much as she use to. I will pray that you find some solution and that Landon will be able to keep his meals down.
Hi Kristin!
Just wanted to let you know that I'll be praying for you and Landon as you try to figure out what's going on with him. Our son Josh had the same things 14 years ago...it wasn't until he was 1 yr old that he stopped all the puking!!! When Mikaela was born we were shocked when we didn't need to carry around spit up blankets and wet wipes everywhere!!!
Suzie
Janae was my puker! But it was more when i breast fed that it was projectile and we were able to realize that i wasn't able to intake more then a cup of a dairy a day or strawberries! She still spit up once i switched to formula all the time but i figured it was normal and her weight gain was fine. the doctors did give me a sample of this special formula for babies who spit up but that just plugged her up so bad. With Camryn i am using lower iron enfamil, she just could't deal with the iron one. I see you have a lot of advice on here so i hope you feel some comfort knowing that you are not the only mother and you are not offer reacting,it's too bad that some doctors make you feel that way. I have had my share of problems with both girls and sometimes i walk away feeling like such a loser and i shouldn't. You are the mother and you know if this needs more attention or not. Hang in there and I pray that you will get some answers soon for you sake but mostly for Landon so he can enjoy eating without the pain afterwards,. take care
