Dream Dinners

I have been meaning to post about this for a long time. A good friend, CJ, introduced me to "Dream Dinners" about 8 months ago. Dream Dinners is located in Bellingham, WA, and you go down for about a 2 hour session and make meals that you then bring home and freeze. There have been a couple things like that in the Langley area, one that didn't survive, and one that is a bit more expensive than DD. I tried it in November and have gone almost every month since.

Each month they have a new menu, and what you do is go to the website (www.dreamdinners.com), choose from their sessions for the month, and then you choose a minimum of 36 servings of food. Most meals come in a 3 serving or 6 serving size. And each serving averages about $3.00. And its all portion controlled. I was really skeptical at first because I thought it was something where everything was done for you and you just went at picked up the meals, but you actually do everything. They have the recipes and stations all set up. There is measuring cups, spoons, bowls, all the meat, spices, and other ingredients cut up and ready for you to use. You follow the directions on the recipe and most meals end up in freezer bags or aluminum containers so that you can freeze them. And best of all, they clean up your mess for you!

We have really enjoyed almost every meal that we have made there and I typically go once a month or once every 2 months (I have a couple different friends that come on an almost regular basis) and I usually make 36 servings, which is 12 different meals. I find that it is just so nice to have these in the freezer, ready to go, for those days when you just don't know what to make, or you need a break. And I really enjoy doing it. What you usually make is just the main dish of a meal, so I still make a salad or other veggies/side dishes to go with our meals. We usually head down on a Saturday morning, for the 9am session and are back by 11:30 or 12noon.

Here are a few pictures of today when I took Char down for her first try at Dream Dinners. She reminded me about taking pictures so that we could blog about it!

How is it taking the food back to Canada over the border?

We have never had any problem. Groceries are duty free and they have never questioned it, as long as you explain it well.
